Year 5

Curriculum Information – Autumn Term (1st Half) 2019/20

English

In English, the children are going to be reading a text called ‘Arthur and the Golden Rope’ from which they will be producing some exciting writing including a newspaper report and narrative.

Maths

In the first half term we will be looking at place value, then applying this knowledge to addition and subtraction. At the end of this half term we will be looking at statistics, focusing on reading graphs and analysing data.

Topic (History & Art)

This half-term, our topic is ‘Myths and Legends’. During this topic, we will be focussing on:

During this half term, year 5 will look at ‘Being me in my world’.

P.E.

Year 5 have Indoor PE on Tuesday.

If your children wear small studs for school, please ensure they are removed before school on PE days. PE kit must be in school on these days.

Homework

Homework will be sent out on a Monday to be returned by the following Monday.

Continuing reading – It is vital that children in Year 5 continue to read at home regularly. Reading books should be taken home from school and changed on a regular basis.
