Year 5

Curriculum Information – Summer Term 2

Learning in Action: Wednesday 19th June at 2:30pm  – Join and take part in your child’s learning in their classroom.

English

In English, the children are going to be reading a text called ‘Running on Empty’ from which they will be producing some exciting writing including a letter, some poetry and a story.

Maths

Over the next half-term, the children will be learning about squared and cubed numbers. They will then be moving on to solve fluency and word problems on these. We will also be revising addition, subtraction, multiplication and division using formal written methods.

Topic (Science)

This half-term, our topic is ‘Humans and other animals’ During this topic, we will be focusing on four key questions:

R.E.

We will be looking at different places of worship and celebrations. Year 5 will be exploring this through art work and the very best pieces of art will be entered into a competition!

P.S.H.E.

During this half term, year 5 will look at the human body and relationships.

P.E.

Year 5 have Outdoor PE and Indoor PE on Wednesdays.

If your children wear small studs for school, please ensure they are removed before school on PE days. PE kit must be in school on these days.

Homework

Homework will be sent out on a Tuesday to be returned by the following Monday.

Continuing reading – It is vital that children in Year 5 continue to read at home regularly. Reading books should be taken home from school and changed on a regular basis.

Important Dates/Events

Wednesday 12th June 2019 – Enterprise trip for 30 children from year 5.

Friday 14th June 2019 – NFL American Football Tournament.

23rd July 2019 – School closed.
