Curriculum Information – Spring Term 1
Our focus for English this half-term will be poetry, playscripts and setting description. We will be looking at the book “Varmints” and in guided reading we are reading Harry Potter.
Over the next half-term, the children will be learning about Roman numerals to 1000 and will be using these to solve number problems. We will also be expanding our knowledge of negative numbers and will be using these to make calculations.
This half-term, our topic is ‘The Story of English Language’. During this topic, we will be learning about different languages and where the English language has come from – exploring how it has changed over time.
In RE we will be looking at Sikhs, Christians and Muslims to give a broad picture and enable student to reflect on their own lives.
Continuing reading – It is essential that children in Year 5 continue to read at home regularly. Reading books should be taken home from school and changed on a regular basis.
During this half term, year 5 will be learning how to be resilient and reflective learners. We will also have a focus on British Values.
Year 5 will have PE on a Tuesday (indoor) where they will be learning to play dodgeball. On a Thursday (outdoor) the children will be learning to play basket-ball.
If your children wear small studs for school, please ensure they are removed before school on PE days. PE kit must be in school on these days.
Homework will be sent out on a Tuesday to be returned by the following Monday.
