Our Curriculum

We believe that learning must be a memorable and enjoyable journey. From the moment your child begins with us, we begin our work to encourage a thirst for learning which will last a lifetime. All our children rise to the challenge of a rich, diverse curriculum which develops children’s competencies across all subjects of the Ebor Gardens Primary Academy Curriculum. This prepares our children for future study and enables them to develop an understanding of the world in which they live in.

We pride ourselves on developing an exciting curriculum which is bespoke to our children and our community. It has been carefully designed to meet the needs of all learners with a rigorous and relentless focus on the development of key skills in phonics, reading, writing, speaking, listening and maths.

At Ebor Gardens Primary Academy School, we strive to embed a love of maths in the children we teach right from Foundation through to Year 6. We teach maths in creative and exciting ways, to prepare children with skills for life. Children throughout the school are encouraged to use CPA (concrete, pictorial, abstract) sequence and ensure that children have opportunities to develop fluency, reasoning and problem solving. A positive mindset is key to the way we teach, and we often celebrate mistakes, using these to further the children’s learning. Creating a love for reading and writing is at the heart of our English curriculum and we strive to teach lessons that are motivating, fun and inspiring for all pupils because this means they will make greater progress. Our teaching of English includes phonics, guided reading, whole class reading, writing, handwriting and EGPS (English, grammar, punctuation and spelling). Writing is taught with a rich stimulus or context, which allows children to write for purpose. Reading is explicitly taught and closely monitored to ensure that children read widely and successfully.

Science is also taught discretely, as are Physical Education, Religious Education, computing, music, MFL and PSHE. Links between subjects are made where they promote understanding and deepen learning. Our creative curriculum brings together our teaching in geography, history, art and design technology. These are taught in termly creative themes that run across year groups so that Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception), KS1 (Years 1 & 2), Lower Key Stage 2 (Years 3 & 4) and Upper Key Stage 2 (Years 5 & 6) share learning experiences on a two year rolling cycle. As children progress through their primary years, relevant factual and conceptual links are made between the themes. Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development as well as modern British Values are embedded into the curriculum, with links being seeded to ensure these values are consistently revisited and consolidated.

We enhance and enrich our curriculum with trips, visitors, real life experiences and outdoor education wherever we can. Community involvement is very important to us and we endeavour to invite as many families and visitors as we can to join us on our learning journey.

Children will leave Ebor Gardens Primary Academy as independent, confident, successful learners with high aspirations who know how to make a positive contribution to the community and the wider society.
