Curriculum Information – Summer Term 2
Our focus for English this half-term will be the book ‘Pugs of the Frozen North’ by Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre. We will be writing our own blurbs for the book, creating our own stories, information leaflets about caring for an animals and looking at poetry.
Over the next half-term, the children will be revisiting numerous different topics we have covered over the year. The main topic of our learning will be statistics, where we will be looking at graphs and interpreting these. We will also be linking this to addition and subtraction.
Topic (History & Science)
This half-term, we will be continuing our topic ‘All Aboard’. This is to expand on the knowledge we have already started to build up about the history of trains.
We will also be focusing on conducting science experiments, to do with forces.
The focus for this half term in RE will be ‘What faiths make up our community?’ This will involve understanding what a community is and what it means to belong. We will also investigate what religions are in our community of the school and finally look at how areas of the country can be different depending on the religious make up.
During this half term, year 4 will look at ‘Changing Me’. This will explore what we know about ourselves and what we will become.
Year 4 will be going swimming on a Tuesday morning and swimming costume/shorts/trunks plus a towel must be brought by all pupils on this day.
On Thursday they must bring their PE kit as both classes will be having PE outside.
If your children wear small studs for school, please ensure they are removed before school on PE days. PE kit must be in school on these days.
Homework will be sent out on a Monday to be returned by the following Monday.
Continuing reading – It is vital that children in Year 4 continue to read at home regularly. Reading books should be taken home from school and changed on a regular basis.
