Curriculum Information – Spring 2 2019/2020

English

This half term we will be exploring Julia Donaldson books. Using these stories as an aid Year 2 will describe settings, characters, continue stories and write their own.

Maths

Over the next half-term, the children will be learning about shape. We will learn the names and properties of 2D and 3D shapes. We will also explore symmetry and patterns. We will also look at fractions of shapes and how to find fractions of amounts. We will focus on finding half, quarters and thirds.

Topic

 This half-term, our topic is ‘The Rainforest’. During this Topic we will look at habitats and animals that are from the Rainforest. We will be comparing animals from the Rainforest to animals in England. We will also look at Rainforest conservation and endangered species and think about how we can help. In art we will be drawing weird and wonderful creatures.

We will be looking at ‘Christianity’ and the Easter story.

P.S.H.E.

During this half term, Year 2 will look at Relationships and think about how we can be kind to each other.

P.E.

2HW and 2LB have Indoor PE on Wednesday.

If your children wear small studs for school, please ensure they are removed before school on PE days. PE kit must be in school on these days.

Homework

Homework will be sent out on a Monday to be returned by the following Monday.

Continuing reading – It is vital that children in Year 2 continue to read at home regularly. The pupil planner should be filled in daily. Thank you to all the children and parents who are reading every day!
